An Underscore study/research group is forming in Portland!
The Underscore is a framework for studying contact improvisation within a compositional layout developed by Nancy Stark Smith. "It is a score that guides dancers through a series of 'changing states,' from solo deepening/releasing and sensitizing to gravity and support; through group circulation and interaction, Contact Improvisation engagements, opening out to full group improvisation with compositional awareness, and back to rest and reflection." ( Nancy Stark Smith, Caught Falling 2008).
A talk-through about the Underscore will be guided on 10/21 from 2-3pm followed by the practice of the Underscore from 3-5pm. The talk-thru on Oct 21 is the ONLY opportunity to attend the talk in Portland, so make sure to mark your calendars! The Underscore is open to people who already have some experience in Contact Improvisation and have participated in at least one Underscore talk-through.
Once the group solidifies on 10/21 it will be a CLOSED GROUP for six weeks 10/21-12/2, 3-5pm. Contact improvisers: take advantage of this opportunity to practice together as a consistent group in a closed container/incubator!
