Dance Artists from Taiwan and Maine to Perform Aug 18

A cross-cultural, contemporary dance performance between artists from Maine and Taiwan is coming to Studio 408 on August 18, 2017, 8pm.

The dance is choreographed by Casey Avaunt in collaboration with Hsin Yi Hsuch, Kelly Varian, and Hsui Ju Yang.

$10 cover, doors open at 7:30pm

Casey Avaunt is a performer, educator, and choreographer who creates work between the U.S. and Asia. She is committed to responsible cross-cultural exchanges and innovative choreographic partnerships that span domestically and internationally. Her work has been performed at a number of venues throughout the U. S. and Asia including: Sheung Wan Civi...c Centre (Hong Kong), Dance Theater Workshop (New York City), and the National Experimental Theater (Taiwan). She was an artist-in-residence at the Taipei Artist Village and performer-in-residence at La Cité internationale des Arts in Paris, France. Casey choreographed for the Columbia Records music video Paris, which received official selection at the Los Angeles International Film Festival and the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in 2014. She co-choreographed for On the Line, a mixed-media project supported by the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), directed by artist/anthropologist Susan Ossman. he has taught at The University of California, Riverside, Mt. San Jacinto College, Colorado College, and Norco College. Casey received her B.A. in Drama/Dance from Colorado College, an M.F.A in Choreography from Taipei National University of the Arts, and an M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of California, Riverside. She is a Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellow in the Critical Dance Studies doctoral program at the University of California, Riverside.
