SPELL is back on 1/29!
SPELL is back on 1/29 from 5:30-6:45 with guest facilitator Jones Franzel, a craniosacral therapist, teacher of embodied writ/ing practice, storyteller and educator. Jones rules, and will lead the second part of class, post-warmup
SPELL (South Portland Experimental Language League) is a biweekly-ish movement class at The Living Room. All levels welcome. No dance experience required at all!
Class meets this Spring:
1/29, 2/12, 2/26, 3/12, & 3/26
SPELL is a place to: warm up, shake out, find a weird new move you like.
We play good music and laugh a lot.
We try out ritual to access new language/s.
We prioritize consent.
Engaging with movement through informal exercises and mirth, we focus on looking inward, exploring for ourselves. No routines to learn; nothing mirror-facing.
Class includes solo, pair, and group work, which is all opt-in. We begin slow, continue with up-tempo scores, and land in one or two longer, more focused exercises.
We also invite guest teachers to share their (vastly varying) practices by leading the main part of class. Reach out if this is you or your friend. Guest teachers do NOT have to be dancers or movement teachers! Visual artists, writers, therapists, educators, etc. all welcome to facilitate.
Class is on a sliding scale of $8-$16, no one turned away.
