SPELL (South Portland Experimental Language League) begins Oct 23
This feminist dance class series is something we've been working on, inspired by Chani Bockwinkel's Sappho & Sweat class.
This space will be a time for us to:
honor some of our deep femme and queer idols
be autumnal and witchy
explore what sometimes cannot be said with words
No dance experience is necessary and all bodies are welcome. Please feel free to bring a piece of whatever you're looking at, listening to, reading, or watching on tv lately -- an object or a quote or a screenshot. We'll use this to guide some of our experiments.
What to expect: a relaxed and solid warmup, good and weird music, time to move on your own as well as with a partner & as a group, reflection time, silliness, no mirrors.
Our practice will illuminate and fail. It will sometimes look like the unexpected or unknown. We will work safely with what we’ve got while while remaining open to new ways of thinking and moving.
If you're still not sure what to expect, please come! Or, reach out to us. We'd love to chat.
